SASHA IS QUIET and tends to hang back, and prefers watching a situation before stepping in. She doesn't rush into things unless she has to, and when trouble starts, she's usually already moving. She's practical above all else, if something needs to be handled, she handles it. Talking about feelings or intentions has never seemed as useful as actually doing something about a problem.
She keeps people at arm's length at first. It isn't because she doesn't care, but because getting attached has cost her before. Trust comes slowly, built over time through consistency and actions instead of promises.
However, when she cares about someone, she cares deeply. She'll put herself in harm's way without thinking twice if it means keeping them safe. The downside is that she rarely asks for help and tends to carry everything on her own shoulders.
She doesn't see the world as gentle or fair as it's treated her with neither... but she hasn't given up on it either. If she can make things safer for someone else, even in small ways, she thinks it's worth it.
SASHA WAS BORN AND RAISED in a rural village in the Ural mountains, a village that lived entirely off its crops and its animals. Days went to working the fields, mending fences, hauling water, and helping neighbors however anyone could. Winters were always hard, but they were something people prepared for and endured together.
Then the winters started lasting longer than they should have. Frost came early and stayed late, crops that should have survived the cold withered instead, livestock froze in their pens overnight even with fires kept burning, and snowstorms rolled in back to back, burying the roads and cutting the village off from every town nearby. People called it bad luck the first year. After the second, they called it a curse.
Food ran scarce, sickness spread through the cold, and every storm took something else from them. Sasha watched her family struggle and her neighbors lose everything they had built. She listened to the elders argue over whether it was worth traveling for help, and she heard the same answer every time, that the roads were too dangerous and anyone who left might not come back.
When it became obvious that nobody was going, she went herself. She packed what little she could carry, left in the middle of the night, and followed the treeline and the old paths hoping to find anyone who could do something about it.
Instead she found the bheur hag, a winter hag said to command cold itself. In the stories they bring endless storms, ruined harvests, and freezing deaths wherever they settle, breaking a community down slowly until somebody is desperate enough to beg. Bheur hags are known for bargains that solve the problem and always take something for it.
The creature didn't attack her, it spoke calmly, and it offered to ease the winters destroying the village in exchange for a deal. Sasha didn't understand every consequence, only that the price would change her, and she agreed anyway. Letting her people die wasn't an option she was willing to consider.
When she came home the cold loosened its grip, the storms thinned out, crops had a chance to grow again, and the livestock stopped dying in the night. The village survived.
The cold clung to her unnaturally, frost formed wherever she stood too long, and pale lines began showing under her skin. People noticed right away, and rumors spread that she had bargained with something dark, that she had brought the curse herself in the first place, that whatever she was now wasn't safe to keep nearby.
Fear replaced gratitude. Parents pulled their children away from her, neighbors stopped meeting her eyes, and eventually the village decided she was too dangerous to keep. Her family argued for her, but they were outnumbered, and she was told to leave before something worse happened. So she did.
She wandered a long time after that, drifting further north and further east toward country where her condition drew less attention and survival ran on strength instead of trust. Decades passed that way, then centuries because the curse had taken her aging along with everything else and the years stopped meaning what they were supposed to mean.
She outlived her family, then their children, then the village itself, which emptied out one generation at a time until the roads leading to it stopped being maintained and the forest took the rest. She has gone back to look. There's nothing there now but foundation stones under the snow, and she still visits them.
Four centuries of travelers, hunters, and villagers passing accounts along have turned Sasha into folklore across the northern ranges. She's Baba Snezhna in the old tellings, a barefoot woman in white who walks out of a blizzard, and depending on who is doing the telling she either saves you or she's the reason the blizzard came at all. Hunters leave offerings at treeline shrines for her, grandmothers use her to frighten children away from wandering off in winter, and there are half a dozen incompatible versions of the tale with none of them entirely wrong.
She has stood in a room and listened to someone tell the story of Baba Snezhna without ever saying it was her.
She protects the settlements scattered through the Urals and the Altai now, blocking passes with ice, guiding people through storms, and hunting the things that come down out of the deep taiga before they reach anywhere populated.
Avalanche Ascendant surfaced for the first time during one of those fights, cornered by something far stronger than she was, when fear and instinct pushed her magic past her control and her body opened into a massive snow beast. She barely remembered the fight afterward, only the exhaustion and whatever was left standing.
After that the stories multiplied. Some people believe a monster guards the mountains, others say a woman commands the storms, and most never connect the two.
So now she lives between being human and becoming something else whenever the cold takes over. She doesn't see herself as a hero... she sees herself as someone who made a deal once to save her home, and who has been paying for it ever since.
Sasha was born and raised in a rural village in the Ural mountains.
The winters started lasting longer than they should have. Crops failed, livestock froze, roads disappeared, and the village began to starve.
Sasha went looking for help and found the bheur hag. She agreed to be changed if it meant the village would survive.
The village survived, but fear replaced gratitude once the cold began following Sasha around.
She wandered north and east, outlived her family and the village itself, and slowly became folklore.
Her transformation surfaced for the first time during a fight when fear and instinct pushed her magic past her control.
She protects settlements through the Urals and the Altai, guiding people through storms and hunting threats from the deep taiga.
Extreme heat affects her faster than normal, causing dizziness, weakness, and loss of concentration. Her baseline is Ural and Siberian winter, so anything a normal person would call freezing reads to her as comfortable.
Passive · the constant influence of hexblood cold
Sasha naturally radiates unnatural cold. Ice forms more easily around her, cold environments feel natural instead of hostile, and pain dulls faster in low temperatures. This passive effect is what allows her physical abilities to reach peak human limits and strengthens all of her ice-based powers.
Heat siphoning · three tiers, one of them costly
"Nothing stays warm around me."
Sasha can pull heat out of what surrounds her and hold it, which is how she manages warm environments instead of simply enduring them. Ambient heat costs her nothing and she does it without thinking. Taking it from a living body is a different matter, and the curse is what made that possible in the first place.
She learned the third tier by accident, cornered and overheated and out of options, and it worked. She has used it a handful of times since, always in an emergency, and it has become easier every time.
A growing snowstorm that turns the battlefield into winter
"Winter has come."
Sasha lowers the temperature across a chosen area, bringing snowfall with it and frost across every surface. The storm doesn't build on its own, she decides how harsh it becomes and how long it holds. As it deepens the ground turns slick, visibility drops, and cold works its way into anyone caught inside, making movement slower and reactions worse.
It starts mild and escalates, which gives enemies time to leave before it becomes dangerous.
Direct manipulation of snow, ice, and frozen moisture
"The frost bites."
Where snow or frost is present, Sasha can shape and control it freely: walls, spikes, shields, frozen restraints, hardened terrain, and projectiles. The colder and more snow covered the area, the faster and stronger the ice responds to her.
Outside cold zones ice forms slowly by pulling moisture out of the air and costs heavy stamina. Large structures, or repeated shaping in quick succession, exhaust her rapidly.
A sudden encasing of ice, used on herself or a target
"Rest beneath the ice."
Sasha instantly freezes either herself or a chosen enemy in solid ice. On enemies it locks them in place and prevents action briefly, and on herself it works as a temporary shield that absorbs damage while leaving her immobile.
The casing breaks under force, stronger opponents escape faster, and the ability drains stamina heavily. It is at its strongest inside Everfrost Domain.
Transformation · a temporary feral winter monster
"The frost is endless."
Sasha releases the full weight of the winter magic inside her, and her body is overtaken by ice and swirling snow into a massive yeti-like form. Frost hardens across her like natural armor, cold radiates violently outward, and her strength, speed, and cryokinesis surge past human limits. Everfrost Domain intensifies faster and freezing effects trigger more easily.
The form is unstable and short-lived. It drains stamina rapidly and lowers her ability to think tactically, pushing her toward instinct-driven aggression, and when it fades exhaustion hits hard enough that she can barely stand.
Her usual form. This is where her control, planning, and precision are strongest.
A massive yeti-like form with greater strength, speed, durability, and ice shaping. Her thinking drops toward raw instinct.
RELATIONSHIPS: Single
No named relationships are listed in Sasha's sheet yet.
HEAT DOES THE OPPOSITE to Sasha that cold does. It loosens the curse's grip on her body and leaves her lightheaded and far too relaxed, so a warm room turns her open and affectionate and terrible at keeping anything to herself, roughly the way three drinks would do it to anyone else. Step her back outside and she's herself again within a minute, usually mortified.
Sasha enjoys listening more than speaking.
Despite everything she's been through, she laughs easily at dumb jokes.
She can't stand being thanked. Her village thanked her too, right up until the frost started following her around and gratitude turned into fear, and she has never stopped hearing the two as the same sound. She goes stiff, stops talking, and finds a reason to be somewhere else, and the more sincere it is the faster she leaves.
Sasha misses her family deeply, even though she knows they're long gone or generations removed by now. She still walks out to the foundation stones of the village every so often, brings flowers, and doesn't tell anyone where she's going.
She carries no money and never has. She traps and hunts, and she trades pelts and meat into settlements for salt, thread, tools, and whatever else she needs.
Her Russian is 400 years out of date, and modern speakers find it either charming or funny depending on how polite they are. Everything else she knows, she learned by ear from people she was helping: Komi, Nenets, Evenki, some Altai and Mongolian from the south. All of it functional rather than fluent, and all of it as antique as her Russian. Her accent survives every one of them.
Her English is bad and recent. She only started hearing it in the last few decades, so it comes out present tense with the articles missing, and she'd rather say nothing than say it badly.
The Evenki, the Altai, and the Nenets all have shamanic traditions with room in them for something like her, and those are the only communities in 400 years that took her arrival as a normal event instead of a threat. She has never forgotten which ones they were, and she still comes when they need her.
Yes. The winters weren't random, they started because a bheur hag had settled nearby, and wherever one lingers the cold turns unnatural and relentless. The storms kept worsening simply because it was there.
The deal didn't magically change the seasons, it made the hag withdraw its influence from the village and ease off the endless winter it had been causing.
Bheur hags don't help out of kindness, they wait for someone desperate enough to agree to anything. Sasha turned up alone, frightened, and willing to give herself away if it saved her village, which is exactly what the hag was waiting for.
It wanted Sasha herself. Hags are made from people desperate enough to bargain, changed slowly by the curse that comes attached, and it told her plainly that the curse would turn her into a hag over time. In return the unnatural winter around the village would ease and her people would live. She understood exactly what she was giving up and agreed anyway.
The curse marked her body and her magic, handing her the ice powers, the cold resistance, and the monstrous form that surfaces when her magic or her emotions overwhelm her. The village was saved and her future was bound to the hag's influence.
She avoided people entirely at first. But everywhere she traveled she kept finding the same fear she had left behind, villages struggling against cold and monsters with nobody coming for them. She helps because she knows what being abandoned feels like, and protecting others became her way of making what happened to her mean something.
It hurts to talk about, and she has learned that the moment people hear the words hag and curse together, fear follows. It's easier to let people see her as a strange winter vigilante than to explain what actually happened.
Part of the curse slowed her aging. The cold magic tied to the deal settled into her body and preserved her the way ice preserves anything else, so years pass, then decades, then centuries, and she stays physically in her early twenties.
She isn't immortal, since she still feels time and lives through all of it, she just doesn't age the way people are supposed to. It's another cost of the bargain. The village got its seasons back and Sasha was left out of step with the world permanently.
Some of it. She did walk out of a blizzard to save a caravan near Chelyabinsk in the 1800s. She did not eat the children in the Novgorod version, and she gets prickly if anyone brings that one up. The barefoot detail is accurate, which is the part nobody ever believes.
Yes. She leaves when she needs to, usually tracking dangerous creatures, gathering supplies, or helping settlements past the range, and she always comes back, since the ranges are where the people who depend on her live and where her abilities matter most. It's also one of the few places where the cold doesn't make her stand out. She can walk away, she just chooses not to.
Yes. After the deal, frost-like markings formed across parts of her skin, pale veins of ice or cracked frost patterns underneath the surface. They're cold to the touch and become more visible when she uses her magic. The hag told her plainly what the curse would do, so she knows what the marks mean, she just doesn't know when.
400 years in, they have spread further than they used to.
